Matildas star Ellie Carpenter and partner Danielle van de Donk have celebrated the new year by getting engaged.

The big moment happened in the Maldives with the pair both sharing a photo of themselves on the beach with van de Donk sporting a dazzling diamond ring.

“My person for life,” the caption read.

The post was inundated with likes and comments from fellow Matildas players, including skipper Sam Kerr, Mackenzie Arnold, Emily van Egmond, Clare Wheeler, Caitlin Foord and many more.

Kerr showed her excitement for the couple by commenting “Congrats guys xx,” and “Let’s gooooo.”

“My girrrrrrlllllssss so damn happy for you guys love you both so much,” Emily Gielnik added.

Carpenter, 23, and van de Donk, 32, met while playing for French side Olympique Lyonnais.

The Aussie gun joined the club in 2020 with the Dutch midfielder joining the following the year.

The engagement is the latest in a series of off-field announcements for the Matildas after their stunning year on the field.

Kerr and longtime partner Kristie Mewis were engaged after the Women’s World Cup, while Kat Gorry and Clara Markstedt are expecting their first child together.

This year shapes as another big one for the Matildas with a medal at the Paris Olympics the goal.

They play Uzbekistan over two legs in late February in the final qualifier to seal their spot in Paris.
